Bona Law's Aaron Gott Selected as a Super Lawyers 2019 Rising Star

Bona Law attorney Aaron Gott was selected to the Super Lawyers 2019 San Diego Rising Stars list, an honor reserved for young lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice—only those in the top 2.5% of eligible lawyers in the San Diego market.
To be considered for Super Lawyers, an individual lawyer must first be nominated by a number of his or her peers. A selection committee then compares the nominated lawyers’ nominations and other qualifications—such as representative matters, verdicts and settlements, publications, and community involvement—to decide which lawyers make the cut. In other words, Super Lawyers provides third-party validation of a lawyer’s abilities and practice for prospective clients seeking only the best of the best.
Aaron is based in San Diego and practices nationwide. He focuses his practice primarily on antitrust and other complex civil litigation, lawsuits against government entities, and appeals. The biggest cases he has handled include defending a contact lens retailer and a Japanese electronics component manufacturer in separate multidistrict antitrust class actions. He also represents plaintiffs in business-to-business antitrust litigation, including an ongoing case against ready mix and cement cartels for price-fixing and group boycotts in Atlanta federal court, a dozen federal cases against Orange County, California municipalities for monopolizing ambulance markets, and an ongoing federal case against the City of Richmond, Virginia and its corporate ambulance authority for unlawfully monopolizing the non-emergency ambulance markets brought in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Aaron is a leading national expert in the state-action immunity doctrine, which exempts defendants from antitrust liability where they meet a hefty burden of showing their otherwise unlawful conduct was compelled by a state regulatory policy. He has argued or briefed cases hinging on the doctrine before numerous federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also been featured on an ABA discussion panel about the Supreme Court’s most recent state-action immunity decision, North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners v. FTC.
Aaron is admitted to practice in California and Minnesota. He is admitted to federal court in the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Central, Northern, and Southern California and the District of Minnesota; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Aaron graduated with his juris doctor from the Florida State University College of Law magna cum laude in 2013, where he also served as executive editor of the Florida State University Law Review. Prior to law school, Aaron served in the U.S. Army for nearly ten years, and during that time took part in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His last active duty assignment was as public affairs officer for the Army’s only pre-deployment combat aviation training brigade. He received his undergraduate education from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a minor in military science.
Aaron grew up near Iowa City, Iowa, but his Army and legal career have since allowed him to call ten other states “home.” He currently lives in the San Diego area with his partner and 18-month-old son (with another one on the way!).
