Bona Law Wins Dismissal of Defamation Suit in California Tribal Sovereign Immunity Case

La Jolla, California (Mar. 21, 2023) – A California Superior Court entered an order granting a Bona Law client’s motion for summary judgment based on tribal immunity.
Bona Law attorneys Luke Hasskamp, Kristen Harris, and Aaron Gott defended the CEO of Toiyabe Indian Health Project against a defamation suit and successfully argued that the plaintiff’s claim implicated tribal governance and administration and therefore the CEO was entitled to tribal immunity. The court dismissed the complaint with prejudice.
